A 19-year-old man who was 17 when he fatally shot a Bayonne teenager in 2024 will be tried as an adult, according Prosecutor Wayne Mello.

A 19-year-old man who was 17 when he fatally shot a Bayonne teenager in July 2024 will be tried as an adult, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello.

Ramel Johnson, 19, of Jersey City, is charged with manslaughter, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon, Mello said in a statement.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 21st, 2024, the Bayonne Police Department and the Bayonne Fire Department were notified of an unresponsive man inside an apartment at 124 West Third St.

The male – later identified as John Dominguez, 17, of Bayonne – was transported by Emergency Medical Services to the then-Bayonne Medical Center.

He was pronounced dead just after 3 p.m. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the torso and the manner to be homicide.
